OH FUCK YAOI: Day 2

Currently (and for a while now), my favorite yaoi manga is Ten Count by Rihito Takarai!!

It’s really an adorable piece that I would recommend to all yaoi lovers (though if you’re not comfortable with explicit scenes beware because there are quite a few of them in here). The art is also delicious and dang them characters are H-O-T, even the uke, which I’d normally only coo at. If Kurose wasn’t his seme, seriously, I’d take him!

While I’d love to say that everything is perfect, I do have to comment on how Shirotani and Kurose’s relationship confuses me. I mean, Shirotani is obviously afraid of contamination and we see that early on, especially when Takarai draws from the POV of Shirotani. We see the germs begin to contaminate surfaces and honestly, it’s pretty scary.

On the other hand there’s also the beginnings of romance and Shirotani becomes able to stand Kurose’s touch. I guess this rapid transition makes me wonder if Shirotani is actually afraid of germs/contamination or if it’s something a bit more traumatic (especially with what’s been going on lately)!

Either way, it’s a good read!! (˶′◡‵˶)

Summary

Ten Count is about a guy named Shirotani who is mysophobic (fear of germs/contamination). One day his boss is caught in a near accident but is saved by a stranger named Kurose. Kurose immediately knows that Shirotani has mysophobia and recommends that he see a doctor. Shirotani takes his advice reluctantly and coincidentally, Kurose becomes his doctor.

The title comes from a list of would-nots that Kurose has Shirotani write down in a notebook. The goal is to be able to do the tenth thing on the list by the end of the treatment, which he leaves blank.

Romance ensues!

Other works by Takarai that I recommend are: Hana no Miyako de (At the Flower Capital), Hana no Mizo Shiru (Only the Flower Knows), Hana no Migoro ni (The Best Time to See the Flowers), Kakemakumo, Kashikoki (Bride of the Fox Spirit), etc!

  1. I READ Only the Flower Knows recently! I was astounded by the amazing, gorgeous artwork. And the story, AH, it hurt my heart so much. It was so emotional but I did not know Rihito Takarai wrote and did the artwork to that wonderful manga. Thankful you mentioned this is another of his/her? work. While I did read, Ten Count, I was not all that taken by the manga but I am so excited to see that this is another work by Rihito Takarai. I can see the distinct style of the artwork now. Can’t believe didn’t see it before.

    1. Only the Flower knows was one of the first works I read by her (I think it’s a her) haha, it was really adorable :3 the ending really confused me, I was just like, why are they adopting him? And then I read somewhere that it just meant marriage (and then I squealed) !!

I do agree with Ten Count, it’s not her best work but its currently the one yaoi manga I’m really hooked on, probably because it hasn’t ended yet xD I’m hoping storywise it gets better 🙂

There’s also another one by her that I’m really anxious to read. I think its called Grainerie (nonyaoi I believe, about a boy who ends up half plant after the authorities try to take his father)

      1. Oh my gosh! Yes. Grainerie. I read it already too after Only the Flower Knows. It is about plants based humans. I wont say more but it is available on some manga sites and you should definitely read it. The artwork! And Lucas 🙂 Yeah. Non-Yaoi but still terrific!

        1. I read up to them…being caught/detained or something? They’re with other villagers (but I haven’t checked for any recent updates) I’d binge on that if I could
